365 days a portrait

Siegfried Woldhek is best known for his beautiful portraits in NRC. He also regularly publishes in the New York Times.


Not only is he a fantastic artist, but he is also a wonderful teacher, which is a fairly rare combination.


In 2019, I attended a workshop with him in his studio.


What I learned most was to be even more open to the expressive power of a portrait.


The day after my workshop, I posted one of the portraits I had made on Facebook.


A former student of mine challenged me.


“Why don’t you post a portrait on Facebook every day for a year?”


Where she got the idea from, I don’t know.


But well, I took up the challenge, and thus 365 days of a portrait was born.
